Jeep Overlanding Build - Part 2

Usually when people go out (at least people I know), the question is "Where are we going to eat?" When Dave and I started overlanding, the question was "How are we going to eat?" I will cover food, etc., in a later post. Since this is part of the Jeep Overlanding Build series, this post will focus on the vehicle itself and how we eat.

We started with one of these folding aluminum tables and a couple of bag chairs like you find at most big box stores. This worked ok, but the table was small and made a lot of noise while we drove, and the chairs were really bulky, taking up valuable room. We used this setup for a while until we could come up with something a bit better or at least more convenient.

I asked Dave if he could help me with a little project. I bought a good sized cutting board that Dave attached with hinges to the inside of the swing-away bumper. He added a bolt for a door lock at the top to keep the "table" in place while driving. Voila! We had an easy surface on which we could prepare a meal. Our fuel canister and burner fit on it with ease. Even though our titanium cups that we eat out of a lot could fit on there as well, this was not ideal for eating. Still, it's super cool though!

We decided to splurge and get a stainless steel table from Frontrunner that slides neatly under our roof rack. Isn't that cool! Now we have a good sized, sturdy table that we can cook and eat on. It was very convenient to store gear when we slept in the Jeep (more on that later).

We got better chairs, too. These are small and fit right underneath the platform that we built when we removed the backseats (yep, later). As you can see, the table is awesome, and Dave is quite pleased!

Isn't that the coolest! As you can see, it is quite convenient, especially when the there are no picnic tables or if they are in disrepair.

Next up...the evolution of sleep! (You can see what's important to me!)

Remember...play in the dirt!
